ABACC

ABACC participated in the 12th edition of the Summer School on Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation for Diplomats from Latin America and the Caribbean, held virtually from August 10 to 21, 2026.

The initiative was organized by the Government of Mexico, in coordination with the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, the Agency for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (OPANAL), and the Matías Romero Institute. The School provides diplomats from the region with training on issues related to nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation, and nuclear safeguards.

Invited to participate once again, ABACC joined a panel dedicated to ABACC and IAEA safeguards. Sonia Fernández Moreno, ABACC’s Planning and Evaluation Officer, of Argentine nationality, presented the main milestones in the organization’s establishment, as well as its history, mission, verification activities, and current challenges.

The event brought together experts and representatives from academic, governmental, regional, and international institutions, as well as young diplomats from Latin America and the Caribbean, promoting the exchange of knowledge and discussion on issues related to disarmament, non-proliferation, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

ABACC’s participation reaffirms its commitment to knowledge sharing and capacity building in the region, contributing to the training of new professionals specialized in these areas.
