ABACC Participates in Working Meeting on the Establishment of a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in the Middle East

ABACC participated in the 3rd Meeting of the 2026 Working Committee of the Conference on the Establishment of a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction in the Middle East, held from September 1 to 3, 2026, at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York.
The objective of the Working Committee meeting was to address issues related to institutional arrangements and the relationship with other agreements in the context of the establishment of the future zone in the Middle East.
In this context, ABACC was invited in recognition of its experience and specialized expertise in this area. On this occasion, Mr. Christian Elechosa, ABACC Officer, gave a presentation on institutional arrangements related to compliance, including bilateral agreements. He highlighted relevant aspects of the confidence-building process between Argentina and Brazil, which culminated in the signing of the Agreement between Argentina and Brazil for the Exclusively Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy (Bilateral Agreement) and the establishment of ABACC, as well as the scope of the activities carried out by the Agency throughout its 35 years of existence.
